Can AI Provide Passive Income? Week 2 Insights

The second week of my challenge to use AI for building a passive income channel is now over!

In this update, I’ll break down the AI workflow I use, what’s working well, along with the challenges and improvements following on from week 1.

If you are looking at ways that AI can generate passive income, keep reading.

Week 2 Highlights

This week brought some interesting highlights; the first was the decision to begin posting the videos being created onto TikTok. Initially, I had been put off doing this, by some well known creators who advocated YouTube over TikTok, for long-term passive income potential. However, I realised that posting these videos on TikTok will help provide additional feedback and insights into my content.

Secondly, this week I spent more time engaging with content to educate me around Shorts creation. The crucial takeaway was ensuring your videos start with a strong hook, show clear progression, and build toward a compelling climax. Also, the importance of your analytic data and the key data to be watching for, such as time of viewership, retention rate (how much of the video people watch), and your View to Swipe ratio.

AI Workflow

In my current content creation system, I take the following steps, with the support of AI:

  1. Content Brainstorming: Utilising ChatGPT to come up with video ideas and act as a sounding board for any ideas I have.
  2. Script Creation: Every script for this project is initially created by ChatGPT. There is an amount of personal editing required to perfect the script.
  3. Narration: The script is put through the ElevenLabs system, which creates an mp3 narration to use for the videos.
  4. Add Soundtrack: For free background music, I have been using Bensound.com, which requires their information placed in the description of your final video.
  5. Find Clips: Currently, I manually source all clips, as the AI tools I use don’t automate this step. Finding an AI solution in the future would save a lot of time.
  6. Editing: Editing is another step I still handle manually.
  7. Post & Review: Posting videos is a straightforward process and the review of analytics is important for future improvements. ChatGPT can be useful for analysing this data to improve future content.

What’s Working Well

  1. AI Improvements: Top Shorts utilise a subtitle structure, which brings the words up as they are spoken in smaller bursts. To begin with, I was doing this manually, until I found a way to do this with AI and saved a huge chunk of time with each Short.
  2. YouTube Analytics: With consistent publishing, YouTube’s analytics can provide insights that help you improve your content. This week I found out that my core viewership tends to watch videos between 3pm to 6pm, particularly on weekends.
  3. Self-Assessment: Only two weeks into this project, and I can already recognise that my ability to assess my videos has improved. I can now be more critical of the videos produced.

Challenges & Improvements

  1. Dedication: Developing a consistent habit of content creation, even supported by AI, is challenging for a beginner.
  2. Time for Improvement: As a beginner, simply learning skills can cost you time in the short-term. For example, learning to use AI for subtitle creation cost me time normally spent creating a video, however this will save me lots of hours in the future.
  3. Rollercoaster of Emotions: Videos will vary in their performance, particularly for beginners. This has continued into week two, with another video that failed to ignite in terms of positive analytics. The key is to understand that as your creations improve, so will the viewership and analytics.

Find Consistency

For anyone looking to take on a similar project, it should be recognised that consistency is everything. Ensuring that you have the time and energy to allocate sufficient time each week to dedicate to a faceless channel. AI is a huge support; however, the initial two weeks have shown me how currently a large reliance remains on human interaction.

I’ll continue exploring how far AI can push passive income - and if you’re on a similar journey, I’d love to hear about your experience!
